Just a short note to let you know that our first show was a remarkable success bearing in mind the persistent & incessant rain and a clash with a Kent and Basildon club show event!
The Aims of the BKA is inter alia to attract & encourage young people into the fancy. Not only did we attract 54 children who took away with them the memory of where chicks come and how to breed Quail for their eggs production and breeding but their parents in more than one instance are now contemplating keeping birds!
The Australian Finch Society was in attendance with Graham Lee manning their stand and the Waxbill Finch Society was very supportive with a supply of Waxbill literature.

Overall 219 attended with 54 children not counting about 10 gatecrashers !! we were delighted that the feedback was a testament to the aims and visions of the Association.
We will now hold regular meetings and these will start in January so watch this space people!!. It is envisaged that the meetings will start on a Saturday or Sunday morning which will assist the younger members to gain bird keeping experience from experienced breeders.

Photos will be posted shortly when they arrive

We were fortunate that BBC Essex was interested in our concept and not only interviewed me at 7am on the morning of the event but came along and interviewed many of the children and parents.
I have also just received a call from one of the parents who wants to purchase a pair of birds with a cage and equipment so that they can provide their children with the ideal Christmas present!
